Critical Magento Open Source Security Alert: StyleSmuggler (CVE-2026-75650)
Magento Open Source store owners should treat CVE-2026-75650, also referred to as StyleSmuggler, as an immediate security priority.
Adobe published APSB26-146 on September 7, 2026, confirming that the vulnerability is critical, actively exploited in the wild, and capable of arbitrary code execution. It carries a CVSS 10.0 score and does not require authentication to exploit.
What is the vulnerability?
CVE-2026-75650 is related to improper neutralization of special elements used in a template engine. In practical terms, successful exploitation can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the Magento server.
For an eCommerce store, this is significantly more serious than a vulnerability that only exposes a limited application function. Successful Remote Code Execution can potentially give an attacker the ability to access sensitive application data, modify files, install persistent malware, or use the compromised server for further attacks.
Which Magento Open Source versions are affected?
According to Adobe's APSB26-146 bulletin, the affected Magento Open Source versions include:
Magento Open Source 2.4.9-2026-aug and earlier
Magento Open Source 2.4.8-2026-aug and earlier
Magento Open Source 2.4.7-2026-aug and earlier
Magento Open Source 2.4.6-2026-aug and earlier
Adobe's recommended solution is the hotfix for CVE-2026-75650, with a Priority 1 rating.

What Magento Open Source store owners should do now
1. Apply the security hotfix
Do not wait for the next regular maintenance cycle.
Have your Magento development team verify the current Magento version and apply Adobe's hotfix for CVE-2026-75650 according to the official release instructions.
2. Check whether the store may already be compromised
This is an important distinction.
Applying the hotfix helps prevent further exploitation, but it does not tell you whether an attacker has already accessed the server.
Because Adobe has confirmed exploitation in the wild, stores that were running an affected version should also consider a compromise assessment.
Review:
Unexpected server processes
Recently modified Magento files
Unknown PHP files or scripts
Suspicious cron jobs
Unexpected administrator accounts
Modified configuration files
Unusual outbound connections
Unexpected database changes
Web server and application logs
Do not assume that the absence of an obvious change means the store was not compromised.
3. Rotate credentials if compromise is suspected
If investigation identifies signs of unauthorized access, credentials and security-sensitive values should be reviewed and rotated.
Depending on the environment, this may include Magento administrator credentials, database credentials, API keys, payment gateway credentials, integration tokens, SSH credentials, and the Magento encryption key.
Credential rotation should be handled carefully because changing security-sensitive values can affect integrations and encrypted data.
4. Review WAF and server-level protection
A Web Application Firewall should not be considered a replacement for patching, but it can provide an additional layer of protection.
Also review server permissions, file integrity monitoring, logging, process monitoring, and access controls.
Why this needs immediate attention
The combination of three factors makes this vulnerability particularly serious:
CVSS 10.0 + no authentication required + exploitation in the wild.
This means Magento Open Source store owners should not treat APSB26-146 as another routine security update to be handled during the next scheduled maintenance window.
The correct approach is:
Patch → Investigate → Rotate credentials where necessary → Verify → Continue monitoring
If your Magento store has been running an affected version, the first question should not only be "Have we applied the patch?"
It should also be:
"Could the store have already been compromised before we patched it?"
